Philadelphia pedestrian killed in alleged drunk driving accident

On Behalf of | Jul 10, 2016 | Firm News, Pedestrian Accidents

All pedestrians who traverse the streets and sidewalks should be aware that they need to keep their heads up and eyes open. Even with stop signs, traffic lights and speed limits helping guide motorists to drive carefully, accidents can still occur without a moment’s notice. And when a car collides with a pedestrian, he or she will likely suffer serious or even fatal injuries.

Drivers who take to the road while intoxicated are far likelier than sober drivers to be the cause of serious injury-accidents. And sadly, it appears this scenario occurred recently on the streets of Philadelphia.

Reportedly, a 52-year-old man was struck and killed following a two-car collision. According to witnesses, a pickup truck ran a red light and collided with a sedan in the intersection. The truck then jumped a curb and hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian, who was on the sidewalk near a bus stop when he was struck, later died as he was being taken to the hospital.

The driver of the pickup was issued a variety of charges related to the accident, including Homicide by Vehicle while DUI. It was reported that the victim was living at a treatment center and was said to be in the process of turning his life around. Treatment facility officials said the man left behind family members in Philadelphia, including a daughter.

There are times where we are reminded just how fragile life can be and how vulnerable we all are when we walk our city’s streets. If you or a loved one should ever be harmed by a negligent driver, you may wish to explore the ways in which you could possibly seek legal justice and secure appropriate compensation. A personal injury attorney who has experience handling auto-pedestrian accidents may be able to help you hold the responsible party accountable.
