Who will be on the hook in a driverless vehicle crash?

Driverless vehicles will undoubtedly be a part of the not-so-distant future. In fact, while testing them in several states, some collisions have occurred -- one of which was fatal. However, with drivers in charge of non-autonomous vehicles, car accidents cause a significant percentage of overall reported deaths in Philadelphia and elsewhere. Many of these crashes involved alcohol. Can you imagine the number of lives that could have been saved if every impaired driver was not behind the wheel but in the back seat of a driverless car?

The sad truth about drunk driving

Drunk driving is considered a punishable offense in all states. The offense is more formally known as a DUI. If an individual is caught driving while intoxicated, he or she might face several consequences. Law-breakers are charged accordingly. They may have to pay substantial fines or might even have to go to jail if the standard DUI turns into a felony DUI charge.

The risks of truck driver fatigue

Unlike drivers of other vehicles, transport drivers may have to travel long distances on a daily basis. Every day tons of goods are delivered all across the country via transport trucks. These trucks are generally large in size. Their daunting size is what makes them an even bigger threat in case of a crash. Truck accidents can be tragic. Transport truck drivers who have to spend hours on the road may suffer from fatigue. Fatigue happens if the truck driver is sleep-deprived or not well-rested.
